About the CES Career Education Society
About Us
The CES Career Education Society is a BC based, non-profit organization of people in education, business, industry, labour, government and private organizations who work together to champion career and learning management as an essential life skill. Over 400 CES Career Education Society members represent all regions of British Columbia and many influence the direction of career development by sitting on national boards and advisory committees. A volunteer Board of Directors and Executive operate the Society. CES Board of Directors
Mandate
The CES Career Education Society's mandate is to:
- Promote career and learning management for all BC youth
- Advocate for the importance and relevance of lifelong career and learning management
- Strengthen the connection between educational curricula and the rapidly changing world of work
- Continue to build and develop a provincial network of career educators and career practitioners in business, industry, labour, government and education
- Support partnerships between schools and community to provide unique career development opportunities
- Provide professional development activities supportive of career and learning management
Initiatives and Resources
The CES Career Education Society successfully fulfills their mandate through innovative career and learning management initiatives including curriculum leadership in the education system, strengthening government relations and establishing partnerships in the career community. The CES has been instrumental in the development of career resources such as Career Gateways and Destination 20/20. Training programs have been created and made available across the province. Strong government relationships and member participation on key provincial and national advisory groups and committees in a variety of sectors enable the CES to exchange valuable information and provide direction on important issues surrounding career and learning management. As a result of the success of these multiple initiatives, the CES Career Education Society is a respected and influential leader in career education.

Members
Members benefit from a well-established communications network created and managed by the CES Career Education Society. Learning opportunities such as the annual conferences and seminars bring together career practitioners to share innovative ideas, best practices and quality programs. Through the united voice of the CES Career Education Society, members are able to address major issues concerning the career education field and benefit from valuable partnerships in the career community. Yesterday to Tomorrow
The CES Career Education Society has dedicated 30 years to the promotion of career education. In 1977, early career practitioners established an organization called SPACE, The Society for the Advancement and Promotion of Career Education. SPACE held its first conference in 1980 with about 40 people in attendance.
CES Background
Today over 400 professionals are members of the CES Career Education Society, a testament to the growing understanding of the importance of career and learning management in British Columbia. The CES believes that career and learning management is an essential life skill and they are committed to its continued promotion and development for the province's youth.
