Healthy Information

This project requires students to critically assess health related Internet sites. The lesson meets many Prescribed Learning Outcomes for Planning 10 as well as meeting the criteria for the Portfolio Core Aspect 5.1. This project is highly valuable for teachers and students in that it meets learning outcomes for both the Planning 10 course and the Portfolio Core Aspect. All students can complete this assignment in Planning 10 and all students can place this in their Portfolio to meet Core Aspect 5.1. It is a great way to get students started on their portfolio.

Participate in a service activity

Students are put into groups and sent out to the school grounds and surrounding areas to clean up garbage. They understand the problem of garbage when they have to go out and pick it up. They realize that they can help keep the school clean by not littering or by telling their friends not to litter. They understand that this community event can help change the negative generalization made of teenagers by community members and that they can have a positive impact on the environment, and conversely that littering has a negative impact on them and the environment.

Presentation Criteria

This is a draft for a Grade 12 portfolio presentation evaluation form. Using examples developed by Langley staff (Krische et al), we have put together a 20 point rubric to assist evaluators with the presentation evaluation. The goal is to help markers and teaching staff to be as consistent as possible with the presentation marks. The four presentation headings put forward by the ministry ( i.e. Demonstrates effort, initiative, etc.)have been broken down into specific statments. A fifth organizer of the portfolio piece itself has also been added.
